FREE MAKE for a FRIEND

Here’s the deal: MAKE is currently distributed across these great states stamp_1through Ingram Periodicals and Ubiquity Distributors and a little by hand.  For most of these stores, it’s the first time they’ve carried MAKE.

We’d like to thank them by sponsoring a buy-em-up run.  Through the end of April, any MAKEs purchased from the list of stockists below will yield a MAKE for a friend.

Mail your receipt or email a scan to info(at)makemag.com, along with a friend’s full address, including email.

We’ll introduce your friend to MAKE through the wonders of the Postal Service and plot your location on our map.

Online Feature: Interview with Paul Nicholas Jones

MAKE intern Nora Bearman caught up with Jones, author of the short story “Documentary” – published in issue 3, truthiness – and available online

For the story behind the story and to see what Jones is up to these days, read the full interview!

This idea of relative truth is at the core of all my writing. I don’t know if there is any other kind of truth for me. People may strive for the absolute, whatever that is, and yet they have to try to get there in a leaking boat or wearing painfully tight boots.”

MAKE CAllS FOR SUBMISSIONS FOR ISSUE 8!

May be old news to some of you, but for the rest – you’ve got one whole month!

THIS EVERYDAY is the theme for the Spring/Summer 2009 issue.  The deadline is April 3, 2009.
We’re looking for work that addresses little things and their big impacts- the phenomenology of daily life, the role of the routine, and the portraits of the day-to-day. Your suggestions – by way of your submissions – always help create the bigger picture. As always, quality of work is the first consideration.

Please upload your work to the online database, rather than emailing it or sending a hard copy. It’s very helpful and environmentally friendly.

Thank you so much.

Tom Bissell Quoted in The Utne Reader

Issue 7 features an interview with Tom Bissell, conducted by Ramsin Canon.

The Utne Reader’s neat online feature “In Quotes,” now features a quote from Tom from the interview.

And while we couldn’t agree more with what is said, we highly recommend picking up issue 7 and reading the whole interview. This barely scratches the porcelain.  Ugh, sorry.
