About the Dead Man and Your Hands

 width=
Four years ago, Chicago poet and musician Marvin Tate interviewed Marvin Bell, Iowa’s first Poet Laureate, for the inaugural issue of MAKE. For issue 8, the “Marvin and Marvin Show” reunited for a collaboration via e-mail merging song, poetry, and the theme “This Everyday.”

Tate initiated the volley with a song and Bell responded with a poem in his patented “Dead Man Poem” form. Tate then responded with another song, Bell with another poem, and then finally, Tate capped the cyber-born performance with a song. The poems, songs, and asides are available below for your listening pleasure! Recorded by LeRoy Bach and Steve Sullivan and mastered by Dave Osborn
