SD Allison was born in Nebraska. He is the descendant of farmers, teachers, and men with bad lungs. He is the father of a little boy with autism. His first novel, Beneath the Plastic was published in 2006. Scott will debut a new comedic nonfiction piece at the event.
Poet Steve Langan graduated from Omaha North High School, the University of Nebraska at Omaha, and the University of Iowa Writers’ Workshop, where he received the Paul Engle Postgraduate Fellowship from the James Michener Foundation. His most recent collection of poems is Meet Me at the Happy Bar (BlazeVOX [books], 2009). He is also the author of Freezing (New Issues, 2001) and Notes on Exile and Other Poems (Backwaters, 2005). Langan serves on the teaching and residency faculty of the University of Nebraska MFA in Writing program. Additionally, he is the primary investigator and facilitator of the Seven Doctors Project at the University of Nebraska Medical Center.
Timothy Schaffert is the author of four novels, including The Coffins of Little Hope (Unbridled Books, 2011). His work has been a Barnes and Noble Discover Great New Writers selection, a New York Times Editors’ Choice, and a Top 10 Summer read from NPR’s “Morning Editon.” He is a contributing editor for Prairie Schooner and the director and founder of the (downtown) Omaha lit fest. He is also the director of The Nebraska Summer Writer’s Conference. Schaffert contributed a short story to the current issue of MAKE.
Rebecca Shaw lives in Omaha, Ne, where she writes, paints, and works, in no particular order. Rebecca will read Elizabeth Crane’s story from issue #11.
Kate Sommer is an associate editor for MAKE, as well a creative writing and English teacher at Duchesne Academy. Kate is also the president for the board of directors for for Komen Nebraska, as well as a board officer for MAKE Literary Productions.
